This week was kind of hard for me because I missed two days. I learned bits and pieces of what we talked about those two days. We watched the obsolete man to show us why we need shared leadership and what it would be like if we did not have it. In the movie the obsolete man if you were different or believe in anything the state did not, you were to be killed or liquified. In the end the obsolete man showed that everyone is obsolete. The chairman who sentenced him was on the verge of dying and he was seen as a coward for begging to be let out. We also talked about our books and we had to come up with a big question. I choose the question How much control does the state have? Throughout the book or chapters i will be answering it along the way. During the first chapter I put that the state has full control in the book Brave New World by Aldous Huxley. In the first chapter it was the state talking about how they take test tubes of embryos and alter them to make them what the state wants them to be. Such as a book lover, or not that smart. So far I do not agree with the state in this book and how much control they have over every ones life. They are like little robots almost just without the metal and gears. Overall I have been playing catch up all week and I feel that I am at a good spot right now. http://www.shmoop.com/brave-new-world/chapter-1-summary.html
Over the past week in this class I have learned many new skills and abilities. We first started off talking about the ten rules for being human. In this lesson we were read the ten rules and we were asked to pick one; i choose rule number nine, which was Your answers lie within you. The answers to life are within you. All you need to do is look, listen and trust. I think this is an important thing in life. we have many answers, but sometimes we second guess ourselves; that is where trusting your answers comes. That is one of the biggest problems I have with myself is trusting the answers that I have about life. I think this was something that I related to well. I enjoyed talking about the ten rules for being human and seeing what everyone else in the class thought was important. The nect thing we talked about in class was the power of story. We watched a video and it showed the difference between just giving a crowd a slideshow with facts and telling a crowd a story. I learned that we retain what we heard in stories because we can connect better through stories. When we tell a story we can connect to a group of people and they will most likely remember what the story was about and many little things within the story. An example of this is when Mr.Schoenborn told us the story of how his youngest son was telling him how his sister needed to be grounded for a thousand years. I connected with this because I have siblings who would say the same thing to my mom. The last thing I learned this week was that there were no rules in writing. I always had trouble with re-reading the sentence before. I would re-read the sentence before and I would loose what I was going to write. I still struggle with this. I learned that when it comes to writing that there are no rules and everything that we writed doen comes from our thoughts. Now when writing I use these new founded skills and I write what is coming from my thoughts and I try not to control what I was going to write down. I found that the rules of writing,( with the no thinking or re-reading the last sentence,) is hard for me to do when i am so used to re-reading what I wrote before to help me come up with the next sentence. https://www.psychologytoday.com/collections/201106/the-power-stories |
